GIS for Urban/Regional Planning and Resource Science, Management and Policy
Planning GIS
Implementation of GIS to support the activities
of public planning agencies represents a special challenge because the data requirements
for planning are extremely broad. Also, most planning activities rely on existing
data from a multitude of sources which may not be compatible in mapping scale,
resolution, classification schemes and other issues. GPC staff have developed
methods for the effective development of strategic databases for planning, including
compiling and reconciling existing manual and digital data sources.
